When I woke up Saturday morning I thought to myself this is going to be a very fun, but very, very long day. As a member of the Apple Vacations Marketing Department, I handle East Cost marketing sponsorships with partners such as The World Champion Philadelphia Phillies. As a baseball fan, luckily for me, Apple Vacations corporately sponsors many MLB teams including The Chicago Cubs, The Chicago White Sox and of course Apple’s hometown World Champion Philadelphia Phillies. Did I say World Champion? This past Saturday, Apple Vacations hosted Philadelphia Phillies Photo Day sponsored by Dreams Resorts & Spas. All fans entering the stadium were given the 2009 Philadelphia Phillies team photo with a vacation certificate for Dreams Resorts & Spas. As part of photo day, all fans are also invited on the field to take pictures of the players before the game. The best part about the day is not just handing out the team photo with Apple Vacations and Dreams Resorts & Spas logos on it to thousands of fans … it is the total experience.
The event takes a lot of coordinating, brainstorming and planning ahead of time, but once you get to game day it is all worth it!
On the day of the event, many hours before the gates even open, Apple Vacations team is busy setting up. This is the amazing team that will show our presence throughout the day and gather fans information for future marketing opportunities. While they are doing this before and during the game; The Sales & Marketing crew is hosting some of our top travel agents and other Apple employees. This year was also very special because we were honored to host a family from one of our favorite charities Little Smiles (www.littlesmiles.org).
A few hours before the game, the Apple – assembled crew was escorted on the field to join the thousands of Phillies fans who were anxiously waiting to meet their favorite players. Our crew got to meet many of the players including Phillies all stars Ryan Howard, Raul Ibanez, Chase Utley, Shane Victorino and Jayson Werth. After lots of “phun and photos“, we were off to a nice lunch hosted by The Phillies. Then, back to our seats where we, along with the hundreds of Apple employees who purchased tickets, cheered on Apple Vacations Executive Vice President, Jeff Mullen and Oliver Keller from Little Smiles as they threw out the first pitch. Don’t worry, they threw it over the plate! And Jeff didn’t create any fashion mistakes by wearing mom jeans like a recent U.S. President.
Oliver Keller is an amazing little boy who is being treated at CHOP for pediatric cancer. I don’t think anyone had more fun at the game than him, or maybe his brother Cole. I brought my son with me who was about the same age and they all had a fabulous time together.
It was an amazing day for us all and The Phillies made it more memorable by providing us both an exciting game with a grand slam home run and a win!
