Being a part of Apple Vacations’ Marketing Team definitely has its fun moments. For more than four years, I’ve been working with media outlets to find exciting ways to further brand Apple Vacations. Of course, we do traditional advertising in newspapers, radio, TV, magazine, online, billboards…you name it! But we also have a strong promotional presence, especially in our exclusive vacation flight markets, where we give away fantastic vacations to consumers through our media partners.

One area where we blend media and consumer travel is radio station “come-alongs”. This is where radio station on-air personalities invite listeners to join them for a live remote broadcast from a resort destination.  The listeners travel as a group with the station staff and get to be involved in the live broadcast and other planned activities. Sometimes we bring major bands to resort for a live concert on the beach, or we sponsor a come-along with a major sports team like the Chicago Bears or the Philadelphia Eagles. Come-alongs are an exclusive opportunity for fans to vacation with like-minded people and get some one-on-one time with their favorite radio DJs, athletes, and celebrities.

Lifehouse traveled to Iberostar Paraiso Lindo with a radio station for a live broadcast and concert on the beach. While inresort, Lifehouse spent a lot of time at the lobby bar which is where this pic was taken.

When planning radio station come-alongs, I work as the middleman between the destination, hotel, radio station, consumers, and, of course, Apple Vacations.

Being the point person for so many people often presents some interesting situations that aren’t exactly in the job description. I have sought out pizza in Cozumel for radio DJs at all hours of the night, searched the Punta Cana beach for a musician’s lost iPod containing unreleased music, retrieved a radio station staffers shoe that somehow landed in the pool at 2am in Puerto Vallarta, flagged down a taxi in Riviera Maya after the taxi some musicians were in ran out of gas…I can’t wait to see what happens on the next come-along!

So the next time you are on an Apple Vacation, be on the lookout for a crazy girl with a clipboard running around resort talking about broadcast lines, sound checks and welcome party appetizers. That’s me…say hi! And, of course, I will help you too find pizza at all hours of the night.
