A Review of Iberostar Grand Hotel Bavaro

Another review from our Philadelphia Sales Manager.

Iberostar Grand Hotel Bavaro  is an Adults Only resort — and  just what you’d expect from an Iberostar! They have 4 a la carte restaurants featuring gourmet cuisine, and a buffet that sports caviar for breakfast, that’s just the beginning!

Dance the night away in “The Ship” — a replica of a Spanish Galleon — right in the middle of the property.  Or, catch a show in the air conditioned indoor theatre.  The resort offers free WIFI in the lobby or cable access in the spacious guest suites.  Each suite comes with butler service, personalized bar, pillow menu and much more!  Don’t forget — maximum occupancy per room is 2 adults.  Expansive beach with shopping huts close by.  Guests staying 1–3 nights will receive 1 free round of golf and guests staying 4+ nights will receive 2 free rounds of golf on the new Iberostar 18 hole course.  Golf includes cart, snacks and drinks!  Recommend it to golfers. Your clients will LOVE this elegant resort!

The Positive: We just got back from a 7 night stay at the resort. I must say that the resort is beautiful, the Star Friends team (El Gato, Happy Feet and Boom Boom) make your trip quite fun with their upbeat personalities. This resort is wonderful thanks to all their great staff of Waitresses (Rosy) bartender (Leo) and star friends. The upper management leaves much to be desired however.

Cons: Wendesday night May 9th, 12 of us in our group ate at the Japanese restaurant and woke up very Ill the next morning. We had a case of food posoining (onset of symptoms of diarreah, vomiting, dehydrations and stomach cramps within 6-8 hrs of eating). We had 25 all together get sick even while dining at different restaurants in the resort that night. We even had 2 persons hospialized.
I was so ill that I had to be taken to the resort clinic for a consult and medications for a whopping cost of $450 US
I spoke to the Food and Bev Manager and with Ricardo Dominguez GM himself to express my concerns for such a high medical bill despite the fact that their resort made me so sick and he was very rude and unapologetic. I expressed my concerns because I never left the resort all week and became ill due to some negligence on food safety obviously. I not only felt horrible for my last 2 days of vacation which caused me to stay in bed; but 6 days later I am still sick to my stomach. Mr. Ricardo did not apologize for my ill feeling nor the fact that I missed out on 2 whole days of my vacation nor did he care to do anything to help out with that very expensive clinic bill.
He even mentioned that our group was the only group of people to get sick in their resort, I felt very offended because I had the bill from the clinic with me and proof that i had become very Ill and he seemed to be implying that maybe this was made up.

Highly dissapointed: to all reading this review, please beware of the food you consume in this property. Take your own meds in case you become ill so that you wont be ripped off as I and many of my friends were. Also dont expect Mr. Dominuez nor his assistant to take care of you in any which way because they simply dont care to if you are ill, inconvenienced or unhappy with your stay.

I would have expected so much more from a prestigous name like “Iberostar” instead I am highly dissapointed and think I will keep my vacations to the US where companies care about their guests.
