Costa Rica – Day 3

Hola, my Friends!  Here is Day 3 . . .

Playa Hermosa Bosque del Mar Hotel / 5 Apple – I would say that this boutique resort is what Frank Lloyd Wright would have created had he built a tree house.  It’s a charmer!  Lovely open-air lobby.  Resort offers recently remodeled large junior suites decorated with a modern flare.  Features 1 restaurant and 1 bar, nice pool area with a jacuzzi and free WIFI.  Beach is quite large with lots of shade!  This resort is featured in the Deluxe option of Apple’s 7 Night “Discover Costa Rica” escorted tour.  Love it!

Excursion:

The famous Costa Rican Zip Lines – the Canopy Tour!  Arrived at the jungle area and was greeted by the English speaking operator for Congo Canopy Tours.  Headed up hill to an open air building to suit up – fitted out with a harness, gloves and hardhat.  Headed further up hill to the first platform via a suspended bridge over a beautiful river gorge.  The operators gave me easy instructions on what to expect and how to handle myself.  Then, my first jump!  WOW!  If you have never experienced this particular type of excursion, you have to add it to your bucket list!  It’s invigorating and exhilarating!  Zipping down a line at 25 miles per hour is something you will NEVER forget!  My excursion included 9 lines (one was over 900 feet long) and several more suspended bridges.  There were monkeys everywhere (probably laughing at me – HA)!  The only thing I would suggest is to remember that there is some climbing involved – not an excursion for anyone with mobility issues.  A FANTASTIC experience!!!

Host Hotel – Night 3:

RIU Guanacaste / 5 Golden Apple – Everything you’ve come to expect from the RIU family of resorts!  This resort (not yet a year old) has a very modern yet tropical feel.  The resort features 701 rooms with liquor dispensers and flat screen TV’s, 4 restaurants and 5 bars.  Free WIFI in the lobby area – no WIFI or Internet connection in the rooms.  Huge theater area and 24 hour Sports Bar!  Great pool area with swim up bar, cocktail tables and lounge chairs in the pool and lots of shade.  Lighted tennis courts, great spa, onsite casino and extensive dark sand beach.  This property has something for everyone!

Fact:

The Guanacaste Tree is the National Tree of Costa Rica.  It was historically planted as a shade tree for the coffee plantations and to shelter the Costa Rican cattle.  The tree resembles a giant umbrella!
