Costa Rica – Day 4

Hello, Everyone!  Below is my final day in Costa Rica.  It’s been a fantastic adventure!  I hope that each of you has the opportunity to experience this destination for yourself!  I also encourage you to check out the various programs that Apple offers – There’s something for everyone! Pura Vida!

JW Marriott Guanacaste Resort & Spa – This EP resort is one of the newest in the area at only 15 months old.  Absolutely stunning property!  Resort features 310 beautiful rooms with flat screen TV’s.  No front desk but rather an intimate air conditioned room with three individual desks for more personalized check in/out.  Free WIFI throughout the entire property or there’s a Business Center with Internet access for a small fee.  Resort offers 2 bars, 6 restaurants, a huge wine cellar, 24 hour room service and a Catholic chapel.  Guests can golf nearby for $80 including the cart or take a class – Yoga, Dance, Pilates, Language or Cultural.  HUGE Spa – Voted by Travel Leisure as the Best and Biggest Spa in Central America!  This resort is truly a winner!

Barcelo Playa Langosta Resort & Casino – Great value!  Resort is located in the Tamarindo area.  GREAT SURFING!!!  Features 998 rooms, 5 bars, 2 restaurants (had lunch here and the food was really good), on site casino and a large theater with a different show every night.  Grounds are extremely lush.  Very nice beach (waves are pretty intense) and nice pool.  There is a surcharge for top shelf liquor.  I would say this is a great resort for anyone looking to be close to the nightlife in Tamarindo or anyone wanting to surf.

Flamingo Beach Resort – This resort is a component on Apple’s self-guided “7 Nights – Fly & Drive, Tropical Adventure“.  Property features 120 rooms with flat screen TV’s, 2 bars (surcharge for top shelf liquor) and 1 Restaurant.  Free Internet access in the lobby or WIFI for a fee.  On site casino, games room with billiards and nice pool with swim up bar.  Beautiful salt and pepper beach (guests do have to cross a small private road for access).  Also, a 24 hour Gym and boutique spa.  Be sure to hit the Sunset Bar for a drink and to watch the whales!

Host Hotel – Night 4:

Westin Playa Conchal – One of my favorite resorts!  This property has a beautiful beach, 18 hole Robert Trent Jones designed golf course, a HUGE pool (seen from the air it’s in the shape of a giant turtle) and a wonderful shopping area!  406 extremely spacious junior suites with living room and wet bar area.  No restrictions on dining in any of the 9 restaurants but reservations are required.  Great Disco and Casino on site!  Food was superior!!!  Book this beautiful resort with complete confidence!

Getting Back:

All departing guests pay a $26 departure tax upon arrival to the airport.  Cash is best but they will also accept credit cards for an additional fee.  The Liberia Airport is quite small and open air.  No problem with check in or security – lines moved quickly.  Do not put off your souvenir shopping until you get to the airport.  The prices are high and there’s not much of a selection.  There is one little food vendor – prices not too bad and the food was great!

There are more species of butterflies in Costa Rica than the entire continent of Africa!  And, there are over 1500 unique species of birds (in a country the size of West Virginia).  That’s more than Canada, the U.S. and Mexico combined!  Costa Rica is the most bio-diverse country in the Western Hemisphere!

Thanks for coming along on this journey with me!  I’ll see you on the next one!
