After visiting Maui last week, I am not shocked that it is has been voted the “Best Island” by readers of Conde Nast Traveler for 20 years!
From its picturesque beaches to 5-Star resorts and welcoming local people, the island has much to offer Destination Wedding couples (or groups), honeymooners and anniversary couples.
“Aina” (or Land)
Wailea is a resort area located in South Maui, which is about 30 minutes from the Kahului Airport. If you are looking for a quiet and intimate experience, this area is perfect for you!
Ka’anapali is another resort area located in West Maui. This part of Maui is a little bit more active than Wailea with more hotels and activities to offer.
“Hokele” (or Hotel)
If Wailea is more your scene, I would recommend staying at either the Fairmont Kea Lani (ocean front with a private beach) or the Andaz (luxurious and chic). And, if you prefer the Ka’anapali area, I would recommend the Westin Maui (tropical and good location).
In addition to resorts, there are many condo complexes, which are budget friendly alternatives because you can house multiple families and purchase food from Costco to cook during your stay rather than eat out at restaurants every day.
“`ano`ê” (or Fun)
While paddle boarding and surfing are a must, you should also check out the Lavender Farm with its amazing smells and lavender scones and Maui’s Winery where you can taste delicious pineapple wines! Or, visit the Maui Ocean Center Aquarium where there is a tank full of sharks and stingrays.
If you are staying along the hotel zone in the Ka’anapli area definitely go to the cliff diving ceremony at the Sheraton and the Drums of the Pacific Luau at the Hyatt, which is supposedly the best on island. While in Maui, I attended this luau and can say that it truly was amazing!
