Detroit Tigers Visit Dominican Republic Baseball Academy

Apple Vacations partnered with Detroit Sports 105.1 and the Detroit Tigers Foundation for a visit to the Dominican Republic from November 29th to December 6th.

Three Detroit Tigers baseball players traveled including J.D. Martinez, Nick Castellanos and Bryan Holaday. Iberostar Dominicana hosted the group, and Detroit Sports 105.1 broadcast live from location.

On December 2nd, Major League Baseball staff located in the Dominican Republic escorted Tigers players, radio staff and listeners to the Tigers Youth Baseball Academy. Those attending had the opportunity to watch an instructional league baseball game and tour the academy facilities, which houses the Tiger’s Dominican Summer League team and fall instructional program.

The Detroit Tigers Foundation presented a nearby orphanage with more than 500 pieces of baseball equipment and 100 t-shirts to support their youth baseball program.

Martinez, Castellanos and Holaday visited the nearby orphanage. The players were escorted by a 17-year-old boy living there. After the tour, Martinez gave the shoes off his feet to the boy as a thank you. The players expressed that they were humbled to have spent the day at the Academy and orphanage.

Apple Vacations is honored to have a partnership with the Detroit Tigers Foundation and Sports 105.1. A big thank you to Iberostar Hotels and Resorts for making this trip possible!
