OK parents…it’s final exam time…then field day…then IT is coming…the inevitable last day of school! I am actually looking forward to it! I’m planning our summer fun, including our summer family vacation!

Like many, I have narrowed down a week and am deciding on location. Last year we went on a great vacation to Dreams Tulum Resort & Spa with friends and family. We were going for a little bit longer of a stay, so we decided to venture down further in the Riviera Maya corridor to Tulum.

I stayed at Dreams Tulum many years ago, when it first opened, and wow — it’s great and perfect for groups and families!

Dreams Tulum does not require wristbands, dining reservations or towel cards, like other AMResorts. I’ve mentioned before how that makes life easier when travelling with a family. You don’t have to be on a dining schedule or worry about losing extra items.

Here are some of my favorite things about the resort:

The Pools! There are two. And they are centrally located on the property, along the beach. It is nice because you don’t have to decide: Is it a “beach or pool day” because the pool is right next to the beach, so you can easily go back and forth. The beaches here are great. They are wide enough for games like beach volleyball or soccer, and long enough so you can take a walk. There was a quiet pool, then the one with the swim-up bar, which had a whole menu of kid-friendly fun drinks from mudslides to Shirley Temple cocktails.

The Dining! We really enjoyed Dreams Tulum’s incredible dining options. During the day we would get pizza from the Barefoot Grill right next to the pool. The pizzas were made to order, tasted great, and the kids loved them! It was nice not to walk far and it was something unique that this resort offers, that I have not seen at others. The first night of our vacation, we ate dinner at Seaside Grill. Our entire group agreed it was excellent. One of the best steaks I have ever had. We loved it so much we ate there two more times for dinner. This resort also hosts one of the largest Coco Café’s I have seen at an AMResort. It was a great place to grab a morning coffee, lounge out of the sun, or grab a snack on the way back to the room. It is a really nice feature of the resort.

Entertainment! The resort entertainment is fabulous. Every day they played games around 3:00 PM, sang songs, danced and even one day there was a foam party! It was a lot of fun! They had plenty of non-motorized activities such as kayaks and sailboats, and a fun “rock climbing” wall in the ocean. Day or night the resort often had live music – which was a nice touch and of course always makes you feel like you are on vacation.

When we got home, I was able to tell people we vacationed like a celebrity. Soon after our return, ABC aired “The Bachelor in Paradise,” which was filmed in part right at the resort!

And Jennie Garth, of former 90210 fame, announced she was engaged in Tulum!

I do want to say, it is a longer ride to/from the airport. But on the way back, our transfer driver put the movie Frozen on, and when we got to the airport it was still playing. So, not bad, and very well worth it.

Here is my photo blog of Dreams Tulum, so you can see the resort and hopefully you get to visit it first hand as well.
