Travel Agent Appreciation Month

Every year, Apple Vacations celebrates Travel Agent Appreciation Month during the month of May. This year is no exception. As a Senior Sales Manager with Apple Vacations, my primary role is to work hand-in-hand with our travel agent partners to keep them up-to-date on any new destinations, resorts and the latest hot deals. Yet, whenever I meet someone new and they discover what I do for a living, I’m often asked, “With all of the resources on the internet, why would anyone need to use a travel agent?”

Travel agents literally spend hundreds of hours each year continuing their education of destinations and resorts by participating in educational seminars and familiarization trips (FAMs) to keep their knowledge current. The internet is a great tool but the information is often conflicting, contradictory and confusing.  A good travel agent uses all available resources plus their personal studies and experiences to ask the right questions and recommend the vacation that best fits your needs. In the long run, planning your vacation takes less time to qualify you and your family for the right vacation by using a travel agent.

If you’re still not convinced that it makes sense to use the services of a travel agent, consider this … Apple Vacations considers the travel agent’s input so critical to successful vacation planning that the cost of the travel agent’s services are already included in the cost of each and every Apple Vacation. That’s right – the cost of your Apple Vacation includes paying your travel agent to book your vacation with us for you so by not using a travel agent, you are in essence short-changing yourself and not getting the full benefit of the Apple Vacation product and service. Since your travel agent’s service is included in the cost of your trip, why not get all of your monies worth?

So, during the month of May, I hope you’ll join Apple Vacations and say “Thank You” for a job well done to the person who cares so much about you and your vacation experience… your local travel agent!   If you don’t already have a personal travel agent, visit Ask An Agent on AppleVacations.com.

Inaugural Flight from SWF to CUN

Our Senior Manager of Sales of the Northeast, Gina West, represented Apple Vacations at Stewart International Airport (SWF) on the morning of Apple Vacations’ inaugural nonstop flight from Stewart International Airport to Cancun last week.

I don’t know if you’re old enough to remember when the fun of going on vacation actually began when you first pulled out your suitcase, dusted it off, packed and then headed off to the airport! Checking in for your flight and the flight itself was part of the fun. Well, Apple Vacations’ goal is to make sure that never changes and it was never more evident than it was last Saturday at Stewart International Airport in Newburgh, NY!

Stewart International Airport is a gem of an airport nestled in the quiet suburbs of Newburgh and New Windsor, New York but don’t let that fool you! The Stewart International Airport may have been the best kept secret as far as alternative options to using the much larger and busier international airports in the northern NJ, NY and Connecticut areas, but all that changed last Saturday!

Nothing could have prepared me for the send-off celebration (provided by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey) that I witnessed, complete with the music of Mariachis (provided by the Mexico Department of Tourism), dancing, refreshments, an official “ribbon-cutting ceremony” and so much more! You can view the festivities here.

It occurred to me that we are so bombarded by doom and gloom reports from the media that we don’t realize, that despite all of the new rules and regulations of flying and traveling in 2011, the fun and excitement of vacationing still exists! The fun still begins the moment you begin to pack and still continues throughout the check-in and flight, especially when you travel with Apple Vacations, and especially if you’re lucky enough to be flying on Apple Vacations’ nonstop charter flights to Cancun from Stewart International Airport this winter!

[Apple Vacations, working in partnership with the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey and Allegiant Airlines will operate nonstop flights to Cancun, Mexico from Stewart International Airport on Saturdays for the next 10 weeks from February 12 – April 23rd.]

Memories from the Beach

090811_beach1I am a beach lover. I am also someone who loves to float, swim, snorkel, play, or even just stand and chat with friends in the ocean.  I love looking at the ocean, listening to it, smelling the saltwater scent, but most of all, I love submersing myself in it. If given the choice, I will always opt to sit in the sand on the beach and swim in the ocean rather than be poolside while on vacation. That’s just my preference.

The average beach-goer brings a plethora of paraphernalia along with them for a day at the beach. A variety of suntan lotions, a hat or visor, sunglasses, aquatic shoes, perhaps something to read or some sort of listening device, a camera to capture memorable moments, snorkel, fins, goggles…these are just some of the items we bring to the beach to entertain us.

In addition to many of these standard items, my personal beach bag includes one rather unique item… Continue reading
