With Domonic Brown, Tommy Greene, Greg Luzinski and the Phillie Phanatic on board, not even the rain could dampen the spirits at Phancation 2013! Here’s a photo album of the great trip hosted by Now Sapphire in Cancun, Apple Vacations and the Phillies.
Did you ever see a game show where the contestant waits until the last minute to make a decision or hit the buzzer, and they wait so long they wind up with nothing?
I LOVE game shows and have found myself on more than one occasion screaming at the screen, “push the button!” or “take the deal!”
Many people wait to book their vacations, and yes, sometimes it works out and they catch a Last Minute Special – especially if they are very flexible. But that is not always the case.
I recently returned from my vacation in Cancun’s Riviera Maya. I was pleased to see that my resort was almost 100% full. And it was not the only one.
With this current cold weather, polar vortex, snow and ice across the US, people want to see the sun. And with Cancun being such an easy flight, the resorts I spoke to were doing very well.
Especially because of the cold, friends and family call me and asking, “when are the really low prices coming out?” and “when is the next big sale?” I keep telling them that if they want to book, go ahead and book now.
We have some amazing rates to Mexico (and the Caribbean of course) right on our website www.applevacations.com. If you hesitate, the dates and resort you want might not be available for long. And prices can go up.
I was pricing out a vacation the other night and by the next morning, the same package price was $200 more per person! The hotel had sold all of the “sale rooms.”
So, thank you mother nature for making my job just a little bit easier right now. And go ahead and book that vacation to Mexico or the Caribbean right now, or you could truly be left in the cold.
As told by Kasey Minnick, Marketing Specialist.
When I stepped off the plane at Cancun International Airport for my five-day adventure in Mexico, the warmth of the Caribbean instantly caused me to forget the frigid temperatures and polar vortex I left back in Pennsylvania.
At 27-years old, I had never been to Cancun before, but felt comfortable right away in my new “home away from home.”
As my van pulled into the resort, I felt safe in its surroundings and ready to explore. The service staff was quick and insistent in carrying my bags, making sure that from the second I reached the resort to the time I left, I wouldn’t need to lift a finger.
Although the sun spent most of my trip only peeking out from behind the clouds, it still reflected beautifully off of the resort’s well-manicured fountains and pool. As I easily navigated through the open-air walkways, I could hear music. That, along with the constant “holas” from the Now Sapphire employees, made me feel comfortable in my new surroundings.
Entering the building where my room was located, my bags were already waiting for me at the door. I could not wait to swipe my key card and see what was inside. The room was absolutely immaculate down to the resort’s robe and slippers placed perfectly on the canopy bed. The spacious area gave way to balcony seats, where a beautiful, beach breeze refreshed the already freshened suite.
When I left my room to venture for the day, I would make a pit stop back to my Suite to freshen up, and my fridge would be stocked with cold beverages, including Coca-Cola made with REAL sugar. The towels in my bathroom were crisp, clean, and hung just right.
I was nervous that the water in my shower would take ages to heat, but it was not any different from my shower in the states, except that Now’s shower was larger.
Being out in the common areas, it was comfortable. It was as if you had traveled to this location with these same vacationers multiple times before. They were considerate, friendly and genuinely looked pleased to be at the resort. Not only were the other vacationers welcoming to new friends but the employees made us their number-one priority. Whether it was to serve you a cocktail from their expansive drink menu, clear your buffet dinner plate or make up your room every morning, they always did it with urgency and with a smile.
I found myself eating mostly at the buffet, which always had vacant seating throughout the day. Having a flexible buffet schedule is nice because you don’t have to feel rushed to get there or rushed to finish the plate in front of you.
I did take advantage of one reserved seating restaurant — Fresco, and it was the best meal of the trip. What I learned immediately is that you have to go to these resorts with an open-mind, willing to try new and exciting foods. Whether you are a vegetarian, meat and potatoes, Italian, or seafood type of eater, it was all there for you to indulge in.
The beach, unlike those I have been to on the East Coast, have a fine sand, which doesn’t get hot to the touch. The beach at Now Sapphire had a plethora of lounge chairs, and space to relax on your own away from any crowds. There were always games of beach volleyball going on, so if you wanted to join, you easily could.
Even though the rain kept me out of the pool, I was able to stay out of the drizzle sitting underneath the coverage of the pool bar. This was one of the most relaxing afternoons I had while on the trip. I met so many people, whom loved to talk about their past and present vacations and share their drink recipes they learned from the Now Sapphire bartenders. Hands down, the best cocktail I had all vacation was called the Iceberg, which was a frozen Margarita sitting atop a Corona.
While depressing, check-out was a breeze and my private transfer safely took me back to the airport. With good vacation memories (and the thought of pool bar Icebergs) fresh in my mind, I wasn’t quite over the Caribbean Sea yet before actively wondering when I could make my return.

When vacationers talk about all-inclusive Dreams Villamagna, two things come to the forefront: Its impeccable dedicated serving staff and incredible view from the 10-story luxury towers.
But that’s not all this Nuevo Vallarta resort brings to the table.
With a quiet and tranquil feel (no spring breakers allowed), you can take a hour-long walk on Dreams Villamagna’s nearly endless clean sand beach. You can also travel to the historic and safe colonial town of Puerto Vallarta, where you can go whale watching, shop or participate in some fantastic golf.
Everything about this resort is top notch, beginning with the grounds, view and including the exceptional staff, who work tirelessly to make sure your stay is unforgettable. Upgrade to an Oceanview room located on on the 7th and 8th floor in the Main tower. You won’t be disappointed.
When it comes to food, Dream Villamagna does it right. With six options, including a spotless and airy buffet, the variety (ranging from sushi, authentic Mexican cuisine to Italian) means there’s really something for everyone. The resort also features five lounges with premium beverages and friendly bartenders to make sure visitors always have access to drinks and a laugh.
If you end up eating and drinking too much (which will happen) or need a kick following a night of dancing to the resort’s live entertainment, you can reinvigorate your body and soul at Dreams Spa by Pevonia. Receive hydrotherapy and indigenous treatments and hit the peak of relaxation.
There are three things that make Dreams Villamagna the right choice for you. It has incredible food, a picturesque poor area and beach, and the service is unmatched. Throw in the quiet and romantic atmosphere and there’s not much else you could wish for in your vacation destination.

The Caribbean island of Cozumel is paradise off the eastern coast of Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula. It was almost purchased by Abe Lincoln in 1861 and was once an historic stop over for grazing pirates.
Today, the pristine getaway trades pirates and conquistadors for vacationers and two awesome but different resorts — Secrets Aura Cozumel and Sunscape Sabor Cozumel.
Secrets Aura, known by its “Adults Only” status, has the feel of a secret and exclusive location built for romance and relaxation. Perfect for anniversaries or celebrations, Secrets Aura is an all-inclusive honeymooner’s dream.
On the other side, all-inclusive Sunscape Sabor features 2,000 feet of white sand beach made for vacationers of any type — families, couples, singles, honeymooners and wedding parties. Sabor also has fun-filled activities at the Explorer’s Club, a fully supervised program for children, making this resort the ultimate fun-and-sun getaway.
When it comes to relaxation and pampering, the two resorts have a lot in common. Secrets Aura comes loaded with impressive Secrets Spa by Pevonia, which uses the latest hydrotherapy and indigenous treatments to get you to a point of relaxation you didn’t know existed. Meanwhile, the also impressive Sunscape Spa by Pevonia lets you relax and reset with over 35 different treatments.
If action is your thing, both resorts take advantage of all Cozumel has to offer. With astonishing coral reefs and crystal water, Secrets Aura is known for water events like sea kayaking, snorkeling, sailing or windsurfing.
Similarly, Sunscape Sabor offers scuba diving and reef snorkeling on or near the second largest barrier reef in the world — the Great Mesoamerican Reef.
Every room at Secrets Aura is made to impress, each coming with a four-poster canopy king-size bed or two double beds, your private terrace or balcony and full marble bathroom with Jacuzzi. At Sunscape Sabor, each room features a king bed, balcony or terrace and flat screen TV. However, the views vary depending on the room type.
If food is your thing, the options are plenty at both resorts. Secrets Aura brings four á la carte gourmet restaurants and a buffet venue where reservations are not required. You also have the option of sneaking away for a romantic meal in your suite or on the beach, a great addition that shouldn’t be overlooked. At Sunscape Sabor there are six restaurants (four á la carte and two buffet options) to fit all tastes and hungers of you and your family.
Whether your tastes are with Secrets Aura’s epic relaxation and romance or Sunscape Sabor’s family fun and beauty, Cozumel makes sure that whichever resort you pick will be the right one.

I cannot count the number of times I have been on an Apple Vacation. Each one has been unique and memorable. I can’t wait to add my trip to Riviera Maya this January to the list. I will be on an Apple Vacation to Now Sapphire Rivera Cancun for the Phancation!
If you have never been to Cancun, here are my top 10 tips to have a successful trip.
1 – Get to the airport early. For international flights, you should be there at least 2 hours prior to departure. I am always one of the first people to check-in. You are never sorry you arrived early, but you could be sorry if you arrive late and miss the flight!
2 – Don’t forget your VALID passport. Also, it must be valid for 6 months from the date of travel. You will be denied boarding if you do not present this at check-in.
3 – Don’t forget the sunscreen. This is not the Jersey shore and the sun is STRONG! Apply frequently. Missing a day of vacation because you are stuck in the room nursing sunburn is just not fun!
4 – Pack wisely. Don’t pack too much and make sure you pack a carry on or easily accessible bag so you can hit the ground running and start your vacation! Most hotels have a check-in time of 3:00PM. However, flights usually arrive in the morning. Expect that your room will NOT be ready when you arrive. Have a bag ready with a swimsuit or something to change into, so you can start your vacation right away. Changing-rooms will be available and the bell man will hold your bags. Also, restaurants will be open for lunch. Resort maps will be available so you can explore and enjoy the property.
5 – Pack valuables such as jewelry, electronics and important medications in your carry on. Then, leave them in the in-room safe when you arrive in resort.
6 – U.S. currency is widely accepted in Mexico. I, however, always do bring small bills in the form of $1’s and $5’s. This is beneficial when you make a purchase so you are not receiving too much change in pesos. Also, when you want to tip, you have small bills available. Tipping is included in the package price, but if I receive exceptional service, I tend to tip the waiters or drivers when appropriate.
7 – Don’t eat anything on vacation that would make you sick at home. Whenever and wherever you travel, your system may react to new foods or drinks introduced. To prevent any problems, I tend to be pro-active rather than re-active. I eat yogurt (Activia) the week before I travel. I also make sure I have any over the counter medications with me in case I need them.
8 – Stay hydrated. Bottled water is readily available at the resort and included.
9 – Wear appropriate footwear. Hotels in Mexico & The Caribbean do not have carpet. Because of the climate, they are marble and tiled. Be careful when near the pool or in the lobby or your room especially if there has been rain!
10 – Turn your Smart phone data off (to airplane mode) and make sure you check with your carrier on any charges you could incur if you use your phone in Mexico. Texting is usually very expensive. My carrier has a minimal charge to use my iPhone in resort, but I have to sign up for it before I leave (and turn it off when I get back). When I am in resort, I tend to use my iPad and communicate with family via the computer for FREE.
This is the time of year where the holiday panic sets it. The friends and family who always have their act together ahead of time have already tweeted or posted on Facebook that their holiday shopping is done. We all have those friends right? We read the status updates and feel like we are dropping the ball (if only for just a minute). Then we have the friends and family that are just starting to organize their lists and ask what people want. They are on their game, but just not done yet. Then, we all have our procrastinator friends and family members that make us feel good and have not even started yet!
So if you haven’t finished your shopping yet, then STOP – don’t shop! Book an Apple Vacation instead. Wouldn’t the family love to be whisked off to Mexico or The Caribbean this Holiday season? Wake up on Christmas morning, and instead of seeing white snow, they can see white sandy beaches, blue sparkling waters…replace your twinkling lights and swap the Christmas tree for palm tree.
It will cost less than you expect! Log on to our Holiday Hot Spots page and see for yourself.
And if you go away, you don’t have to clean the house or cook – sounds dreamy to me! Book your Holiday Apple Vacation then tweet it and update your Facebook status immediately so YOU can be the one everyone is envious of – including me.
