Philadelphia Phillies Baseball 101 presented by Palladium Hotels & Resorts

Apple Vacations and Palladium Hotels & Resorts participated in Philadelphia Phillies Baseball 101 yesterday. It was a great day where 150 women, including a few of our top travel agent friends, were able to have exclusive “behind – the – scenes” access to the Philadelphia Phillies stadium and learn “the game” from some of the best coaches in baseball! On – field  – batting, fielding and pitching clinics were highlights of the day along with a visit from Phillies First baseman Ryan Howard.

The Philadelphia Phillies really do of a great job organizing the event and they make sure all of the attendees have a truly unique and exciting experience.

It was a fun event for Apple Vacations and Palladium Hotels & Resorts to participate in, but the key reason we participate is the proceeds from Baseball 101 are donated to Phillies charities! Apple Vacations and Palladium representatives were able to go on field prior to the game and present a check from Baseball 101 to Phillies Charities for over $12,000!

Apple Vacations Live Radio Broadcast from Sandos Caracol Eco Resort

Our Friends from WJRZ recently got back from a week-long live broadcast at Sandos Caracol Eco Resort, which is one of the Eco-Friendly Resorts we are featured in April for Earth Day.

Glenn Kalina, who has been a radio fixture in the Philadelphia and New Jersey region for many years, travelled with The Magic Morning Show & Diane De Oliviera to Riviera Maya. They broadcasted live each morning from Sandos Caracol Eco Resort. They did an amazing job while they were there, transporting their listening audience practically in to resort with them.  Here are some photos of the broadcast.

This past July I soaked up the sun for three days at Secrets Silversands Riviera Cancun with my best friend.  I loved every second of our getaway.  The resort is very modern and chic and you feel it as soon as you enter the main lobby and see the sculpture of silver fish.  We received a warm welcome from the staff with a cold hand towel and glass of champagne!

It was the perfect blend of relaxation and adventure. From peaceful pampering at the Secrets Spa by Pevonia, to an exciting bike ride into Puerto Morelos, we enjoyed the best of both worlds. Most of our time was spent lounging poolside near Manatees and sipping on refreshing cocktails at the swim up-bar.   When the sun goes down the party continues with lively entertainment.  One night we enjoyed a captivating performance at ShowTime Theater, Secrets Idol, presented by Secrets Entertainment Team.  Guests competed in a singing competition and the judges were also guests.  The music selection got us on our feet dancing.

Secrets Silversands Riviera Cancun offered a variety of dining options.  Each morning I enjoyed a hearty breakfast at World Café complete with a Mimosa and Bloody Mary bar! The ceviche at Oceana was one of my favorite meals and it is served al fresco overlooking the main pool.  El Patio is my favorite restaurant at the resort, not just because it serves authentic Mexican cuisine, but the warm ambiance is very inviting and just down right adorable. As soon as you enter the restaurant, there is a tree with blown glass hearts dangling, making the perfect photo opportunity. At least one Mexican meal is a must when in Mexico! I highly recommend the delicious guacamole and El Paster pork tacos. And of course, while we were there, we just had to order 24-hour room service one night for a midnight snack! There is truly something for everyone.

Family Vacations – Ready or not, it’s time to GO!

av_sf_6abc_med_rect

Another major “vacation company” has a great marketing campaign out right now, and it is what I preach all the time. Take your vacation NOW, your kids are only this age once. Don’t miss out on it.

As my son gets older, I want to freeze time.  My son is 8 and he will only be 8 once. OK, it is for an entire year I know, but I feel like he was 3, I blinked and now he is 8.  I want to soak up every minute of him being 8 and acting 8 (the good and the bad).

I do understand when people want to “Wait until their kids remember” before spending a lot of money on a vacation, or wait until their kids are “old enough” to really enjoy it. But your kids are only this age once. Every family can use some together time away from work, school, video games, homework, laptops and television.  This summer, plan your family together time on an Apple Vacation!

Plan it together by picking out destinations you want to see, hotels that have activities your family enjoys or excursions you want to experience. Or just be spontaneous and surprise them!

There is no better time spent with your family, than on an Apple Vacation!  Make the summer of 2013 one your family will never forget. Go ahead and pick out your vacation here.

Secrets Royal Beach Resort & Spa – Punta Cana

We have the cure for your Spring Fever! For those of you suffering from unpleasant cold weather, constant wind and snowfall and dreary days, your distress is over. Start thinking of warm weather, pristine beaches, unlimited gourmet cuisine and endless top-shelf spirits.

Read about a recent review of Secrets Royal Beach Resort & Spa, located in Punta Cana. As told by Apple Vacations own Kathleen Kroos, who recently vacationed there.

We left Philadelphia on a cold early January morning.  We left our coats in the car and boarded the airport shuttle for what was to be the most relaxing trip we had ever taken.   Even the plane ride over was restful!  Frontier Airlines seated us with plenty of leg room and the cabin crew was very pleasant.  We loved the quaint thatched roofed on the Punta Cana airport and were amazed by the efficiency of the airport staff.  All accompanied by the music of a local band.  We then met the Amstar rep., in his red and blue flowered shirt, who then showed us to our mini-bus for the ride to the hotel.

We were the second stop for the bus.  It was a pleasant comfortable ride. Secrets Royal Beach Punta Cana had a beautiful exterior.  It’s in a park-like setting with a pretty little lake running through it. The hotel porters had already taken our bags and we went into the lovely lobby to register and be taken to our room.  Our room was sumptuous!  The king-sized bed was very comfortable and every evening it was decorated with rose petals.  Our balcony had a lovely view of the courtyard and lazy river below.  The bathroom was very convenient and beautifully decorated.  It had a room for the toilet and a vanity with double sink and a beautiful walk in shower.  My husband is an amputee and they had included a chair for him to sit in while showering.  Every one of our needs were taken care of by the hotel staff!

After looking at the room we put on our bathing suits and strolled around the pool, the lazy river and then down to the beautiful beach for a delicious snack, a stroll along the waterand an opportunity to sit a stare at our beautiful surroundings.  Other than the occasional waiter taking our drink orders we relaxed to the sound of the waves, and the far off sounds of other happy travelers enjoying their day.

The first night we chose the Oceana seafood restaurant for dinner (good food and service) and later went to the entertainment in the courtyard just outside the hotel.  We listened to beautiful music and laughed at comedians.  We were pretty tired after our trip and went to bed early that night.

We had a great breakfast the next morning at the buffet and took our mimosas out to the beach to sit in the lounge chairs and enjoy the view.  After we’d been there about an hour, a man came up and invited us to a dance class.  He was gorgeous!  I took the class right on the beach just to watch this guy!  So did a large number of other women.  The rest of that day and the next are just one relaxing blur of relaxation, great food and friendly people all having a wonderful time!

Located amidst palm trees, lush vegetation and manicured gardens on an expansive sugar-white beach, this colorful Caribbean resort offers adults a seaside escape to romance, relaxation and Unlimited-Luxury®.

Dining at Iberostar Cancun

I was pleasantly surprised on my vacation to Iberostar Hotels & Resorts with the many dining options and quality of food. I know a lot of people research dining at a resort before they go on vacation, so I wanted to share my experience with our “Juice” audience.

I tend to not commit myself to advanced dining reservations in resort.  I don’t like to be on a schedule, especially if I am away for a just long weekend or 3 night vacation.  So a good buffet is a requirement. This is also especially important when travelling with families, as we all know kids can be picky and when in a new country they may need to try a few things before they find something they like.  It’s also not as easy to keep to a schedule with kids, so dining at our leisure, with no reservations, is important.

The main buffet restaurant of Iberostar Cancun is Antigüo Laguito. The selection and quality of food at this buffet was one of the best I have been to.  It was a very large restaurant with both indoor air-conditioned seating, as well as outdoor dining. There was never a wait and the selection at this restaurant was over the top. At breakfast they had everything from Mexican specialties, to fish, to traditional “American” breakfast of cereal, eggs, pancakes and waffles. They even “dipped” donuts while you waited.  Made–to-order omelet stations were throughout the buffet. There was truly not a thing missing and everything was delicious. Lunch and dinner also had a huge variety including fresh fish, shrimp, steak, make-your-own tacos, made-to-order pizzas, a pasta bar and Mexican specialties. The variety didn’t change drastically each night so if you found something you loved, you could have it each night.  There were still enough selections that you could eat here but have something different each time– including dessert!   The staff brought drinks promptly to us and they were very attentive.  If you enjoy a good buffet, and you tend to stick to buffet dining in resort, you will not be disappointed.

One of my favorite restaurants was El Maguey Restaurant because of the unique food and the tranquil view. They are open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. They have a Mexican specialties buffet for lunch each day with authentic carnitas, guacamole, fresh fish, cheeses and so much more.  When in Mexico…you should eat Mexican food! It was delicious and fun to sample local Mexican cuisine each day – again on our own schedule since it is a buffet.  It was a simple restaurant, but the views are stunning, as it is set right off of the beach.  Since it is right between the beach and pool, most guests dined in a cover up and casual shoes for lunch. However, it converts to “fine dining” for dinner.

For informal lunch dining there is also a snack bar that served burgers and sandwiches, so you do not have to miss any time out in the sun.

My family always likes to try a Hibatchi restaurant on vacation when possible. They are usually family friendly, and especially good for groups. Naga Hibachi Japanese Restaurant  did not disappoint.  We did have to make a reservation, but we got the time we wanted and they took us promptly. We were with a group so we were the entire table. They chef was friendly and really entertained us while cooking. The food was wonderful and there were enough menu options for everyone.  We all ordered something different from steak, to shrimp to chicken. The kids were able to be part of the interactive cooking.  It kept them both occupied and entertained. My son still talks about this dinner. Delicious food and a great memory, makes this restaurant tops on my list.

There were so many dining choices at Iberostar Cancun, we didn’t make it to all of them. But there is always next time, so stay tuned!

Iberostar Cancun – Great for Groups.

Iberostar Hotels & Resorts is part of Apple Vacations SuperSale. I stayed at Iberostar Cancun last summer and I wrote a blog on the resort highlights and why it is a great choice for families, check it out here.

I have a few more reviews of the resort I want to share, starting with why it is great for groups! Iberostar Cancun is perfect for a group getaway – if it is a family reunion, couples retreat, girls’ getaway or “man-cation” you are looking for, Iberostar Cancun is a great choice.  This is why:

  • Getting there – The resort is not a far drive from the airport – about 15 minutes. So if you are all coming in on the same flight – great, but if there are different flights you can easily make your way to the resort on your own.
  • The resort is right in Cancun, and there is plenty to do in the resort. But if you want to venture out, there is shopping, restaurants and night-life just moments away.  The bus is a very inexpensive option to get to the shopping markets and you can get it right in front of the hotel.
  • There are just over 400 rooms, but it is a high rise so your rooms can be requested in the same section of the resort. It is not a mega – resort where you may not see your friends after you check in. Unless, of course, you don’t want to! ;) The resort is manageable for a group to stick together.
  • There is a lot to do right in the resort that will make any group happy from shows, to golf to the pool to the spa.
  • The pool is huge with plenty of space for chairs and sunbeds for a group. Our last trip, we never had a problem finding seats together. We didn’t get up at 7 a.m. either.
  • The resort is great for sports enthusiasts. Iberostar Cancun is the only resort in the area that has an 18-hole championship golf course.  They also have a FIFA regulated soccer field if you have a soccer club. Beach volleyball, pool volleyball, water polo, ping pong and tennis are all available for your group to enjoy.  There is a sports bar as well, so you don’t have to miss any of the big games, while you are away.
  • Iberostar Cancun has many dining locations that can accommodate a group. The main buffet restaurant is Antigüo Laguito. They have in-door air conditioned seating, as well as outdoor seating which can be arranged for groups.  With the buffet, there is sure to be selections to make any group happy. My personal favorite, when on a group vacation, is going to a Hibachi restaurant, where they cook at your table. Naga Hibachi Japanese Restaurant was a fun dinner and part of the highlights of our group vacation.

The resort is a really very nice resort, but it is also very affordable in general, but especially for a group vacation.  Apple Vacations offers two great options for booking groups. Click here for more details.

And make sure your group considers Iberostar Cancun for your next Apple Vacation.
