Sports fans probably know that Apple Vacations sponsors several major teams nationwide.  We’re the proud sponsors of three Major League Baseball teams, the Chicago Cubs, the Chicago White Sox, and the World Champion Philadelphia Phillies.  As sponsors, we host special events at the games, give away vacations, and invite our employees and customers to be our guests at home games.

Just this week, Apple Vacations hosted “Dominican Republic Day” with the Chicago White Sox at U.S. Cellular FieldThe first 20,000 fans were presented with a commemorative poster featuring past and present White Sox players who hail from the Dominican Republic.  In addition, the Chicago White Sox honored Mark Buehrle’s perfect game with “Mark Buehrle Day”. Fans also received a Mark Buehrle baseball card, sponsored by Apple Vacations.

One of the highlights of the night was when the Dominican Republic’s Minister of Tourism, Francisco Javier Garcia, threw out the first pitch and took a photo with pitcher John Danks.  Apple Vacations executives and officials from the Dominican Republic Office of Tourism took an on-field photo with Dominican White Sox pitcher Octavio Dotel.  There was also an on-field performance by Dominican Republic Folkloric Ballet.  Along with thousands of fans, Apple Vacations hosted 70 travel agents and eight hotel partners and celebrated a White Sox win!

Being a part of Apple Vacations’ Marketing Team definitely has its fun moments. For more than four years, I’ve been working with media outlets to find exciting ways to further brand Apple Vacations. Of course, we do traditional advertising in newspapers, radio, TV, magazine, online, billboards…you name it! But we also have a strong promotional presence, especially in our exclusive vacation flight markets, where we give away fantastic vacations to consumers through our media partners.

One area where we blend media and consumer travel is radio station “come-alongs”. This is where radio station on-air personalities invite listeners to join them for a live remote broadcast from a resort destination.  …Read More>>

Get to Know the Real Dominican Republic

090710_samanaMany of you have probably been to Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic, famed for its fantastic beaches and huge all-inclusive resorts. Why not try something a little different from your neighbors and visit the North Coast of the island, or the Eastern Peninsula area of Samaná?

Those looking for culture and adventure, or who want to go exploring outside of their hotel, should try the North Coast of the island. Here you will find the historic city of Puerto Plata, lined by an oceanfront boulevard (Malecón) with open air restaurants, shops and nightlife - the perfect place to mix with the locals and drink an ice cold Presidente, the local beer. Take the short cable ride to the peak of Isabel de Torres, the 2,500 foot mountain that rises above the city and features a botanical garden at its summit sporting glorious views of the city and surrounding area. And while exploring the city, don’t forget to visit the amber museum and the rum factory. For those wanting a hotel with just a breakfast plan to allow maximum time for exploring, look at the small and intimate Victoria Golf & Beach Resort which has some great offers until the end of the summer and also includes unlimited domestic alcoholic and non alcoholic drinks in its rates.   …Read More>>

Apple Advantages for Groups

090619_groups1The more I talk to friends and family, the more I am seeing them taking group vacations for various occasions.  Those events include Family or Class Reunions, Destination Weddings, Business and Incentive groups, or just a group of friends getting away for a few days.  Regardless of the occasion, it has become more common to see groups traveling together.  I have a friend that traveled with a group to Cancun and watched the NCAA Final Four.  The hotel set up a 30-foot screen on the beach with drinks and appetizers for the guests.  What else could a group of friends ask for then to have free food and drinks in perfect tropical weather while watching one of America’s favorite sporting events on a giant screen on the beach. …Read More>>

Travel Tips from a Customer Service Expert

Hi there! My name is Eileen Monroe, and I am a seasoned Applelite of 15 years!  I started in Reservations as an agent, moved to Groups, then used my Penn State University degree in Education to slide into the Training Department. Later I became a floor supervisor, a manager and now, a pre-travel specialist as the Senior Manager of Apple Vacations’ Core Customer Service.

I’ve been around so long ’cause I love Apple, love the industry, and all the amazing travel opportunities that it allowed me to share with my family and friends. Each trip has left us with memories of a lifetime!  I’ve learned a lot of travel dos and don’ts over the years, which I’d like to share with you.

When traveling, my kids nicknamed my husband “Father Fun,” and with great affection called me, ” The Fun Police” because I always worry about the details.  So, let me give you the best of both worlds… …Read More>>
