Iberostar Cancun – A great choice for families!

Before my recent trip to Iberostar Cancun, I did a lot of research. I knew they had a kids club, a teen club and a kid’s pool. My son is 7, so I thought this would be perfect!  We had a great time, and these are some of the highlights for families…

Iberostar Cancun has one of the best kid’s pools of any resort that we have ever stayed at!  The center was a pirate ship with slides and waterfalls.  We spent part of the day, every day, at the kid’s pool.   My son LOVED it!

Iberostar Cancun has Lucy’s kids club

Iberostar Cancun has Lucy’s kids club. If your kids need to be out of the sun for an hour or want to play with friends, make a craft or watch a movie, they could hang outat Lucy’s kids club located right next to the pool. The hours and schedule are posted daily, so make sure you check in the morning. The kids club was available each day and select evenings.

There were plenty of Cabanas.  If my son needed to get out of the sun, veg out or take an afternoon nap, while still in sight of mommy in the pool, it was easy to do.  There are a few cabanas right next to the pool.  We always had a cabana or chairs next to the pool where he could take a rest.

The staff was amazing! They really went out of the way to make us happy. The bartenders would make specialty drinks for the kids and the entertainment staff would play games and always include the kids. They really made the kids feel special.

The shows! Every night at 8 PM there was an interactive show for kids called the “kids disco”. They got on stage, sang, danced and played games. It was a lot of fun and one of the highlights of our trip.

My family really enjoyed our time at Iberostar Cancun and we can’t wait to go back!

Now Sapphire Riviera Cancun

mexico-nov-11-510I visited Now Sapphire in Riviera Maya this month. I was there in June and wanted to go back and check it out. The hotel since June has had a lot of “soft” renovations such as new beach and pool chairs and new bedding. It looks GREAT!

Now Sapphire has a fabulous open-air lobby, which is great for sitting, reading or having a drink. The lobby is the center of the theatre, lobby bar and all of the dining.

The biggest attraction of this hotel is the amazing pool!  It is huge. It has quiet sections for lounging and of course the swim up bar “fun” section. Now Sapphire also has a very long white sand beach — completely picturesque.

They also have an activities pool. When I visited, they were having scuba diving lessons. How fun!

They have a great Explorer’s Kids Club, which I know my son would love. With their own kid size chairs and playground. It is fenced in and just adorable.

You can also upgrade to the Preferred Club for upgraded amenities and the Preferred Club also has a private adults only / quiet pool complete with Bali beds! If you are traveling without the kids, or plan on using the Explorer’s Kids Club, this is a great option to consider.

The hotel is very walk-able. It is big but not one of the mega-resorts of Riviera Maya.  Overall the hotel has a very Aztec/ Spanish influence unlike Now Jade, which is more of a modern feel. When you step into this hotel, you know you are in Mexico.

It is less than a 30-minute drive from the airport and just north of Puerto Morelos, a cute little fishing village / town with a few shops, Catholic church and beautiful beach.

At Now Sapphire, there are no dining reservations, no towel cards and no wristbands, which is an overall vacation convenience.  The food and service were also excellent.

Explorer’s Kids Club

dscf0986So if you read my blog you know I LOVE the Explorer’s Kids Club at Dreams Resorts & Spas and Now Resorts & Spas. This last trip to Now Jade Riviera Cancun was no exception. My son had so much fun when he was at the club. As a matter of fact, several times I went to pick him up, and he didn’t want to come!

Each day we would get up early and hit the beach or pool and have lunch together, and by about 2 or 3 each day my son would ask to go to the kids club, he was done with the grown ups. There was lots of kids and he had a great time at the Explorer’s Kids Club.

This was his most favorite day at the kids club:

2:00 was pirate face painting, 3:00 pirate party, 4:00 was water balloon fight on the beach, 5:00 a jump in the pool. 6:00 was a private kids drum show then 7:00 was a private dinner for the kids. Then the “night-time” activity was a pajama party and pillow fight. He had so much fun he is still talking about it!

The Explorer’s Kids Clubs are a great way to have a family vacation combined with grown up time for drinks at the pool bar, a nice dinner or show.

More of my favorite things

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the Explorer’s Kids club at Now Jade Riviera Cancun.

A sample afternoon of our trip is:

My son went to the Explorer’s Kids club in the late afternoon. They played games, had fun taking turns hitting the Pinata for candy and they topped the night off on the beach with dinner, roasting marshmallows and a movie right on the beach!

We went to the Adults only Preferred Club Pool where Fransisco at the pool bar made a few more of our favorite things and then we had dinner at the Mexican restaurant which was spectacular. Make sure you try the grilled cactus!

Explorer’s Club at Now Jade

Need a vacation for you…. but you still really want to take the kids? Then an easy vacation choice is Dreams Resorts & Spas or Now Resorts & Spas. Why? Explorer’s Club! I LOVE taking my son away on vacation with me and having some great family time, but some fun time for me is also VERY nice. This is where the Explorer’s Club comes in. We experienced it before at Dreams, and this week at NOW. The Explorer’s Club is for children 3–12 years old. It’s not babysitting, they are actual experiences for kids.

A few days of our vacation we were able to take our son to the Explorer’s Club to meet new friends from around the world, and even one from right up the road from where we live. I honestly can’t say enough good things about the staff at the Explorer‘s Club. They are wonderful. They were genuinely friendly and enjoyed the time with my son as much as he did with them. They are uniformed professionals, but at the same time within seconds he loved them and wanted to keep going back.

The first night he went they had a beach party. Continue reading

Kids Getaway at The Explorers Club

090707_explorer21Traveling to Dreams Tulum, I had my first experience using a kids club at a resort. I had not planned to do it, and thought we’d continue with our family togetherness vacations that had worked well in the past.

When we arrived at Dreams Tulum, we had lunch at Seaside Grill and then headed for the pool. For a family resort, I wondered where all the kids were. I soon found out they were in camp. How horrible of these parents to come to this beautiful resort and stick their kids in camp! I would soon eat those words. Continue reading
