BlueBay Grand Esmeralda

Apple Vacations & BlueBay Grand Esmeralda in Cancun’s Riviera Maya has announced specials available from now through the of the year! We have gotten a lot of questions on the resort. So I asked one of our Sales Managers, Gina West, who was there for a report. Here is her review:

The resort is located just north of Playa del Carmen , so the commute from the Cancun airport is only about 30 minutes which is especially great for short stays.

Each guest room building has it’s own concierge and each building also has an elevator with glass walls that with views of the outdoors. The guest rooms are really very nice and richly appointed with plush bedding (not the hard mattresses that are so typically are found in hotels). All of the guest rooms definitely have the feel of a luxury upscale resort – which surprised me for the price of this resort. For an upgrade, they offer swim out rooms with a large and rather deep (3′ – 4′) common plunge pool that is shared by everyone on the ground floor. These plunge pools do not connect with the resorts main pool. They also offer suites which are two rooms – a living room and a separate master bedroom with a king bed.

The very large main pool runs parallel to the coastline rather than perpendicular to it, which is always more pleasing and dramatic. The pool has a lot of character. They have a children’s area plus exercise bikes in the pool and built in lounging seats in the pool around the perimeter. Very nice for hot summer days!

The white sandy beach is very clean and spacious with ample lounge chairs for those who prefer to sit closer to the ocean. In this case, you can be close to both the pool and the ocean!

The specialty a la carte restaurants were completely renovated about 2 – 3 years ago and I was very impressed with them. The main buffet restaurant is located by the pool with great views of the ocean. It’s very spacious and the food was good.

Their spa is large with lots of open air areas and a water circuit program. At the time that it opened, I remember thinking it was larger than most spas and just really different since it was so open.

The theater area was okay. The hotel also have a few specialty shops for guests. The lobby is nice. It’s probably the highest point in the resort. One thing to point out at the resort is that there is a distance between the lobby, spa, theater and shops and the guest rooms. You have to walk over a long boardwalk that was built over the mangroves to get there. They do have shuttles available, but mostly people walked.

For the selling points of this hotel, it is definitely worth it!

Riviera Maya FAM Review

secrets_silversandsOur new brand Florida sales rep, Everton, escorted his first FAM trip to Riviera Maya. Here is the report to see what he thought on his first Apple Vacations’ FAM trip and his first look at some Riviera Maya resorts.

Hola, como estas? From beautiful Cancun, Mexico. I had the pleasure to escort a FAM from Baltimore this week. Upon arrival at the Cancun airport, I found my luggage quickly then walked outside to find the flowered shirts! Once the rest of my group arrived, we were immediately shown to our bus, where there was cold bottled water and cool towels waiting.  It was awesome!

Here are my impressions of the first few hotels we visited:

Secrets Silversands Riviera Cancun – This property was amazing. It was my first time here but I could tell this would be one of my favorites! They have an air-conditioned lobby and lobby bar. This is an adults-only (18+) resort, which has 8 restaurants and 8 bars.  No wristbands, no restrictions on dining and no reservations are required! The resort has beautiful pools! The wonderful ocean view Jacuzzi had a definite “wow-effect” on me!  Top shelf liquor and American beer are included and are standard which is great for American clients.  Non-stop transfers are included when booking this resort with Apple Vacations!

Dreams Riviera Cancun Resort & Spa – This was a gorgeous property and just turned a year old!  They have an open-air lobby with a beautiful lobby bar overlooking the Mangroves!  This resort has 486 octagonal-shaped rooms.  They also have ground-floor swim-out suites, 6 bars and 9 restaurants. The main buffet has Mexican, Asian and Italian stations. The Bordeaux is an amazing adults-only restaurant.  24- hour room service is also available.  The Explorers Club is a great place for kids and they offer pagers for the parents when they leave their children. The beach at this hotel is awesome and it includes great diving and snorkeling! There is an outside bar called Barracuda, which features swings at the bar! How fun!

Tune in tomorrow for more reviews!

Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Punta Cana

avatar

One of Apple Vacations Senior Marketing Executives just got back from a family vacation to the the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Punta Cana. We got a review from her son yesterday, but here is what she had to say about the vacation:

We just returned from a great trip to Hard Rock Punta Cana. The resort was very impressive—grounds were beautiful, beach was awesome, and food and service was excellent. Our room was very spacious with a jacuzzi and great decor.  They are updating the rooms from the Moon Palace decor (which was already modern and tasteful) with a  Hard Rock touch—Rock ‘n Roll art, etc. The spa was huge and amazing and so was the casino, and there is all kinds of Rock memorabilia throughout the hotel.

There are something like 11 pools which are all big too and many with swim-up bars.

Being relatively new, the resort was not even close to capacity, but even when it is I can’t imagine having to get up early to reserve chairs because there are so many pools, all set along the beach. My teenage sons participated in the activities at the main activities pool and really enjoyed  the entertainment staff.

Unfortunately one of our bags got misdirected by the airline, and the hotel’s Customer Service staff was very helpful in terms of  making phone calls to the airline to follow up and arrange a ride to the shopping center. They also sent extra amenities to the room and made several follow-up calls to ensure we didn’t need anything. Complimentary long distance phone calls was another great perk!

If you like big hotels and don’t mind walking a bit , you’ll love Hard Rock!  If you are traveling with teenagers this is a great place to go as well because the staff really engages them—we have been on many Apple Vacations and this ranks at the top of the list!

Don’t forget—If you book by 12/31 Hard Rock Punta Cana is currently offering an air credit of up to $700.00 and resort credit of up to $1500.00. Click here for more details on how to redeem the credits and what they are good for.
