Luggage Locks — Why Every Traveler Should Use One!

tsa_accepted_locksSo when you travel, it is always wise to bring your common sense with you. It starts with packing AND TSA Approved Travel Locks! Think of all the touch points your luggage will go through after it leaves your hands at check-in. I am personally a very trusting person, but a little backup never hurts. I spoke to the Manager of our Customer Care team and this is what she recommends.

Travelers should always use TSA Approved Travel Locks. They have a special slot that allows the TSA to open and re-lock them, should they need to search your luggage. Travel locks are available in “key” or “combination” type. She recommends the combination type – so you don’t lose the key! These travel locks are available almost everywhere, check Wal-Mart, Walgreens and luggage stores. CVS currently sells a 4 pack for about $10.

A locked suitcase can also serve as a big safe in your hotel room!

Keep in mind…. Apple Vacations has never had a complaint of luggage being rifled through — or items stolen out of — locked luggage! So for some extra peace of mind, when you travel don’t forget to lock your luggage.

New TSA Rules – Are you prepared?

Do you know about the new “TSA Secure Flight rules”.  All airline passengers must provide full names, date of birth and gender for domestic and international travel for flights beginning November 1, 2010.

Apple Vacations began collecting this passenger information (as an option) in February of this year and made the information mandatory in May. So much of the Apple Vacations’ passenger information has already been collected.

When you make a new booking, please have this CORRECT information available at the time of booking. Travel agents are also encouraged to check their own bookings, made over the past few months, for travel after November 1,  to ensure the correct info was entered at the time of booking.

A little effort now will go a long way……… as having the correct information entered ahead of time will allow for a speedier check in, and ensure no one is denied boarding!

New TSA Requirements

Have you booked a trip lately and noticed that you now need to provide more information at the time of booking? If not, get ready for it! The TSA will soon require that EVERY passenger provides their full name (including middle name), full birth date and gender at the time of booking. The information entered MUST match what is on the passport. This is for both domestic and international travel. When you book an Apple Vacation, entering this information is still optional. At the end of next month, this information will be mandatory. Incomplete or incorrect information could very well result in denied boarding. Travel agents know that now is the time to get in the habit of asking for the information. Consumers need to know that it is very important to provide the correct information to their travel agent or booking agent, so there are no delays or missed flights at the airport.
